Seward Montessori has a parent book club. We just started a new book. And it's funny! If you are interested in building community and exploring race and identity, join us!  Book: How to Make White People Laugh , by Negin Farsad Next meeting: Wednesday, Dec 1, 7:30-9:00 PM Zoom link can be found on the Seward Calendar or PTA Website . Try to get the book and get started by the Dec 1 meeting. A limited number of copies of the book are available on Christine's desk in the front office. Help yourself. Please sign up for a shift here .   From Jody Volk, Health Specialist High5 & Kindergarten are continuing our social emotional unit. We are reading a lot of Diane Alber spot books! Our class time is spent: Movement Story/lesson Movement Work time Breathing E1 just played Health Safety Jeopardy, ask them about it! Now they will be learning about the brain, germs and diseases.  E2 is starting communicable disease research projects. They will get to choose from a list of diseases to research and using set valid and reliable websites and books will answer the questions provided for them. They will create a group google slide show and present it to the class. This project is 4 weeks long. *THANK YOU to all who helped us with our biking unit- we couldn’t do it without you! We are looking for room parents! These classrooms still need a room parent: Juliet Holder (High Five), Sue Backus (E1), Kia Britain (E1), Mary Brownrigg (E1), Logan Caldwell (E1), Kyra Christopherson (E1), Kaye Deblieck (E1), Melissa Ericksen (E1), Kaylee Johnson (E1), Kelly O'Brien (E1), Lea Davenport (E2), Kelley Dean (E2), Lisa Herr (E2), Ness Madeiros (E2), Lynda Ott (E2), Valerie Peterson-Brandt (E2), Peggy Solensten (E2).   Room Parents work with the classroom teacher to facilitate parent involvement. Responsibilities may include: Developing class list, forwarding emails from PTA/teacher etc, forming relationships with teacher to help with needs they may have, welcoming new families in the class, assisting with parties and gatherings both inside and outside of the classroom. American Indian Awareness & Family Involvement Week: Nov, 15-19, 2021

  American Indian Awareness & Family Involvement Week is a week-long initiative for Minneapolis Public Schools celebrating, recognizing and raising awareness of American Indian people & culture. Minneapolis has a vibrant American Indian community and we have much pride serving over 1500 American Indian students across the district in more than 100 schools. What: Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic @ Seward When: Monday, November 15th, 9am-11am (2nd Dose on 12/6) Who:  All children ages 5-11yrs (do not have to be Seward students) Where: Multi-purpose room, near the front entrance   Please fill out the interest form for Seward to plan for how many people will attend. Consent forms are available on Seward's website . Please bring the completed consent form with you to the vaccine clinic. It is required that caregivers are present with the child who is to be vaccinated.

Seward's Parent Book Club Kickoff Meeting: Wednesday, November 3, 7:30 p.m. via zoom

Hello Seward Parents!  Seward's Parent Book Club's purpose is to build community and to reflect on race, racism and identity within Seward Montessori and in our lives. We will have a book club kickoff meeting to connect/re-connect, share what we've been reading individually, set intentions for the group, and make a decision about what to read as a community this year.  If a new parent wants to take on organizing the book club, Katie (who has organized the book club the past two years) would be happy to support them.
