Thurs. Seward Insider: Parent Book Club starting soon

Seward parents have gathered since the 2018 school year. The purpose of the group is to build community and to reflect on race, racism, and identity within Seward Montessori and in our lives. Due to the pandemic, meetings are held on Zoom, once per month, usually on a weeknight evening. The dates/times are determined based on current members' needs, so please know there will be opportunities to shift the times earlier/later month to month.

Past books we have read together:
A Good Time for the Truth: Race in MN
Born a Crime, by Trevor Noah
The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander
Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson

Important resources that we have referenced and learned from:
Netflix Documentary "13th"
Podcast series "Nice White Parents" and "Seeing White"
Podcast and equity organization: Integrated Schools

If you would like to join the book club google group, email Seward parent Katie Nissly at bookcluborganizer@sewardmontessori.org.

The first meeting will be in late October or early November. The book club is in the process of selecting the book... so stay tuned!
